Early Morning in the mist

I love the opportunity to get up early and see the landscape wake up.  On Sunday I had that chance and was able to share it with another photographer that was experiencing Crested Butte for the first time.  We struck out at 5am to Gothic and Schofield Pass with clouds hanging thickly in the early pre-sunrise light.  As the light grew into shafts of color through the clouds and mist we made every attempt to shoot, talk and drive around to various spots in the East River Valley.

It was one of those mornings when the light was incredible but incredibly fleeting.  The fast clouds were opening and closing and sliding across the snowfields and ridge lines while we fiddled with lenses and photography talk.  Every time we turned around the light was getting better and then gone.  It was fun and challenging at the same time.  No matter what the weather is, it is always rewarding to go out for a pre-sunrise adventure.

The variety of available subject matter is unlimited in Crested Butte and I’m always excited to share it.  Happy shooting Larry!
